Today’s Devotion: July 26
Hebrews 11:40 “God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.”
A few years ago, I was asked to perform poetry within a venue and I was not feeling especially social at the time. Though I had not committed, I called a week prior and told the event coordinator that I would be unable to participate. A day or two later, one of the co-coordinators called me and said, “Sis, you have to be there. Someone needs your light.” (She had me at ‘hello.’)
More was said during the conversation, but with that one statement I was reminded that the gift(s) God places in us are not about us. The life we live is not about us. If you or I say, I am a child of God, a believer in Jesus Christ, a Christian, then others should be able to see it in some way, shape or form. Whether it is our gifting (art, science, technology) or our compassion, love and generosity, we must remember to reflect God’s presence in our lives. After all, the world needs our light.
Prayer: Lord God, thank You for reminding me that as I testify of You and Your Greatness, I am called to a higher standard in my lifestyle choices and my actions. I could never be perfect, but I know Your Grace will help me to live a life that is more pleasing to You with each passing day. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
