Morning Devotion: July 16
Psalm 42:5 “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance (his presence).”
Being depressed is no fun. Staying depressed is injurious to ourselves and to the ones who care about us. Yes, us. God does not want us to be depressed or anxious. That is not His will for our lives. If and/or when we get in this state, it is important to get professional help AND it is also a good time to do a spiritual self-check. Do I believe in a power greater than myself? Am I connected with people who have similar beliefs? Do I take time to learn about and nurture my relationship with the Higher Power? The answers to these questions can direct us to the point where we begin to place our hope in One who is greater than mankind. This is the beginning of healing from that which “disquiets” our inner peace.
Prayer: Lord, thank You that my peace can be found in your presence. Direct me to the truth of who You are, so that I may follow You in the way that You desire. Give me the wisdom and discernment to filter out anything that would disturb my growing relationship with You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
