Morning Devotion: August 5
Psalms 25:3 “Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.”
At 18 years old, I received Christ as my personal Savior. While excited within, I remember being ashamed to outwardly show or say that I was a born-again believer in Jesus Christ. It was not popular in my neighborhood, and I believed I had to dress the part. Learning more about God helped me realize my faith was only a source of shame when my actions contradicted The One I professed to know. Years later, it is clear to me that God is so merciful, and I can always ask forgiveness when I miss the mark (sin).
Growth in our understanding of Who God is, enables us to recognize behaviors that could lead to shame, and to know God is never the source of that shame. In fact, waiting on God — from a job offer to eradication of a pandemic — is a sign of maturity in our faith, that we trust Him. We believe He will come through. In this, there is no shame.
Prayer: God Almighty, thank You that beginning life anew, as a born-again believer in Christ Jesus, is a gift. Each new day that I grow closer to You is an opportunity to live a live free from shame or guilt. Transform me daily, through Your Holy Spirit, and give me the courage to live the life You desire for me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
