John 15:7 “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”

If I ignore the first part of this scripture, it almost sounds like God is my personal genie in a lamp. Regretfully, I admit, that is where I once had Him pegged. Lord, give me more money. Lord, give me that new car. Lord, give me, give me, and give me.

Thankfully, I went back to the first part of the text which tells me to abide, or stay with Him. It also tells me to let His Word(s) stay with me. When I began to implement this, my prayers (and the answers to them) changed.

God wants what is best for us. The more we know Him — by making room for His presence and His word in our lives — we can ask what we will AND God will do it for us.

Prayer: God in Heaven, You are a doer of Your Word. Thank You, that I can ask anything in context with what is best for me, and You will do it. Give me the fortitude to get out of my own way, while patiently waiting for the answer to my prayers. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
